Supporters of Balamitra

The work of Balamitra would be impossible without the help of supporters, donators, volunteers and well-wishers.

FREUNDE DER ERZIEHUNGSKUNST RUDOLF STEINERS e.V.
CRS - Catholic Relief Services
After Margaret’s visit we came in contact with this German organisation that focuses on the international support of Waldorf education. Through the WOW – World of Waldorf – program we could start Balamitra Model School in Vizag and our education program for tribal children. The invitation of some of our teachers to the UNESCO World Youth Festival in Stuttgart built stronger ties between the ‘Freunde’ and Balamitra. Most of our German volunteers came to us via the 'Freunde'. This has been a exciting experience for both sides as we are fusing tribal culture with waldorf inspired education. Catholic Relief Services is an US based organisation that works all around the world and works on health, agricultural and educational issues. They also focus on elimination of child labour.
In the last two years they extended their support to our tribal education program which helped us developing our voluntary program as well as keeping up the community participation to ensure that the children attend school regularly. Through the help of CRS the children of Balamitra model school can live their for free as they are mainly supported with the assistance of CRS. This cooperation encourages us to take the project forward.

Sir Dorabji Tata Trust
Asha for Education
The first support for our tribal education project came through SDTT. With their help we could set up the first community schools and initiate the training center where we develop curricula and train village school teachers. With the support of SDTT we could manage the first three years of Balamitra, the first literate generation of tribal children proudly left Balamitra for Ashram schools. This US - based NGO is working on basic education in India, understanding that a change in the Indian education system is needed, especially in respect of the so-called 'underprivileged' children. Asha makes it possible for us to run the Balamitra village schools, giving education to about 800 children in 40 remote villages in the mountains of Andhra Pradesh.
